Elon Musk has lost so much money that the Guinness World Records recognized him for the ‘largest loss of personal fortune in history

In January of 2023, a remarkable feat was achieved by Elon Musk. According to Guinness World Records, he officially holds the title for the greatest amount of money ever lost in history! As both CEO of Tesla and Twitter, an astronomical sum was wiped from his personal fortune over the course of last year – proof that even those at the top have their misfortunes.

According to Forbes, Elon Musk’s net worth has drastically decreased by a staggering $183 billion in only twelve months. Bloomberg pegs the total loss at an even more incredible figure of $200 billion.

Before Musk, the previous highest personal fortune wiped out was $58.6 billion – a significantly lower figure than his own record-breaking loss of wealth. This mark had previously been set by Softbank founder and CEO Masayoshi Son in 2000.

Just last November, Elon Musk had an estimated net worth of $340 billion, according to Bloomberg. However, the Tesla stock which largely makes up his wealth got into a downward spiral in 2022 and plummeted 65%. In October that year it entered freefall after he made the purchase of Twitter.

Consequently, Elon Musk has been dethroned as the world’s wealthiest individual, with that accolade instead being passed on to Bernard Arnault – the CEO of a renowned French company responsible for Louis Vuitton.

As of the most recent Forbes assessment, Elon Musk has an incredible net worth of $144.4 billion!

Even after this monumental loss of wealth, he is still by far the second richest person in the world. Despite this being a record for the largest personal fortune lost, it’s a reminder that regardless of the losses you may have faced – as long as you keep working and have faith, success can still be achieved.
