Johnnie Walker, one of the world’s most beloved Scotch whiskey brands, just announced a special edition Blue Label Scotch Whisky to commemorate Lunar New Year.
The limited edition Blue Label Scotch Whisky is inspired by traditional Chinese festivities, with a unique blend that has been crafted to bring out the best in the Lunar New Year celebrations.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label is a thirty-year-old blended scotch that has become the standard in its field. The juice is extracted from top-notch casks at Diageo’s ginormous malt and grain storage. Its elegant bottle, with slope shoulders, would stand out on any bar or cocktail lounge shelf.
With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, you may be wondering how you can celebrate. Well, one way is to get your hands on a special edition bottle of champagne.
It’s important to understand that the liquid inside the bottle is identical to what master blender Emma Walker and her team usually create for Blue Label.
In simpler terms, you should be able to smell a sweetness similar to that of a plum, and the flavor should be rich and nutty with vanilla and pepper spice notes from mid-palate through the finish.
This scotch’s flavor is a perfect balance of characteristics from the four main regions it originates from- Highland, Lowland, Speyside, and Islay.
What makes this limited edition release unique is its presentation. The bottle and case are both adorned with colorful, vivid artistry by Shanghai-based designer Angel Chen. A certain animal takes center stage in all the artwork, and since 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, you can probably guess who it is.
The rabbits in the Johnnie Walker logo are not only cute and cuddly, but they also have a deeper meaning. They’re shown frolicking about mountainous peaks to symbolize the brand’s motto: Keep Walking.
The rabbit is also a symbol of longevity in Asian culture, which makes it the perfect image for this label. The company celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2020.
Chen, a graduate of the prestigious Central Saint Martin College of Art of London’s fashion program says-
“There’s a defiant energy to my illustrations which bring to life the vibrant spirit of the rabbit as it leaps across the design. It symbolizes how we need to keep moving forward, spreading goodness throughout the year to come.”
Chen says she looked to Walker for inspiration when creating her line. The final products are now available in stores nationwide, retailing at $275 per bottle. With the Chinese New Year coming up on January 22nd, 2023, this gives you plenty of time to snag a bottle (or two) as a gift.
And for those who want to explore beyond the standard drink, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Dundas is a great place to start. It’s the fifth entry in the brand’s expanding series focusing on closed-down distilleries.
This liquor contains a mix of juices from the original distillery—which used to be situated on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal—as well as treasured liquid from Brora and Cambus. Its creamy texture subtlety fades into a smoky taste, which is currently being sold for $370.
So, cheers to Johnnie Walker and its excellent Lunar New Year offerings. Let’s raise a glass of good luck and fortune for the upcoming year!
