Maruti Suzuki recalls over 11,000 Grand Vitara. Here’s why

On Monday, Maruti Suzuki – India’s premier car manufacturer – declared a recall of 11,177 Grand Vitara models produced between August 8th, 2022 and November 15th, 2022.

Maruti Suzuki notified in its regulatory filing that a ‘potential defect’ may be present in the rear seatbelt mounting brackets. The car manufacturer declared that authorized dealer workshops will check and substitute the components cost-free.

“The Company has announced to recall 11,177 Grand Vitara vehicles manufactured between 8th August, 2022 and 15th November, 2022.”

-As stated by Maruti Suzuki in its regulatory filing. It also added-

“It is suspected that there is a possible defect in rear seat belt mounting brackets (“Parts”), which in a rare case, may loosen in the long run and impact its functionality. Vehicle owners will be receiving communication from Maruti Suzuki authorized dealer workshops for inspection and replacement of the affected parts, free of cost.”

As Maruti Suzuki is set to disclose its December quarter results on the 24th of January, 2023, it recently revealed there was a 9% drop in total wholesales from 1,53,149 units during this same time last year – down to 1,39,347.

“The shortage of electronic components had some impact on the production of vehicles, mainly in domestic models. The company took all possible measures to minimize the impact.” MSIL declared.

On Monday, Maruti Suzuki’s shares on BSE plummeted by a miniscule 0.16 per cent to an estimated ₹8,430 after the company reported an astonishing four fold increase in net profits amounting to ₹2,061.5 crore for the September quarter!
