McDonalds is giving customers the chance to win free food for life as part of their new global campaign. The fast-food giant will be randomly selecting customers from their loyalty program, and those selected will receive a McDonald’s gold card that grants them free food for life.
From December 5 onwards, every order worth at least $1 in the McDonald’s app will put customers into a chance to win a McGold Card.
Three winners will get a McDonalds card that entitles them to free food for life, plus three additional cards to give away– totaling 12 cards being won.
For years, the McGold Card has been available to select members of the public, with some reportedly holding them including Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. In 2018, McDonald’s held a contest where a few gold cards were given out as prizes – however, the winner was only eligible for two free meals per week for 50 years. This year’s promotion follows the same rules and ends on December 25th.
Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s USA chief marketing officer said-
“Our fans have been fascinated by the lore of the McGold Card and if it really exists. And now, we’ll make this McDonald’s legend a reality for our fans by giving them the ultimate holiday gift – a chance to win a card and then share access to it with three of their family or friends.”
McDonald’s is trying to rope people in with three weeks of food deals and merchandise. A couple of examples of this are nugget-shaped Christmas stockings and an AMWrapper Hoodie with either Egg McMuffin or cheeseburger prints.
McDonald’s is running a promotion for the third year in a row where customers can get buy-one-get-one-free Big Mac sandwiches, six-piece chicken nuggets for only $1, and 50-cent double cheeseburgers. Promotions like this have been around since last year and were even advertised by famous pop singer Mariah Carey.
The yearly promotion attracts customers without putting extra strain on our employees by using existing ingredients or menu items. Also, the free food costs only $1 which encourages people to come in and spend more money.
Recently, McDonald’s strong earnings were at least partially due to deals like these. In the third quarter, sales growth for US stores open at least 13 months was 6.1%.
According to CFO Ian Borden last month, the chain is now “the leading brand in terms of value for money and affordability.” He also mentioned that because some customers are low on cash, they’re buying more value items rather than full meals.
The company’s success has been driven by leveraging its classic products while continuing to test and introduce new ones. And with the current promotion, McDonald’s is hoping to bring even more customers in through the door.
So make sure to download the app now and get ready for a chance to win free food for life!
