Snapchat arrives on Microsoft Store

The popular photo and video-sharing app, Snapchat, is now available on the Microsoft Store platform. The move comes as part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to make its services more accessible to a wider range of users.

Although Snapchat has avoided expanding to the Windows platform in the past, they have recently debuted on the Microsoft Store as a Progressive Web App.

According to Windows Central, Snapchat’s Progressive Web App (PWA) will run on Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 and 11 PCs. This app will be based on Snap’s web version, which was released earlier this year. The app is powered by Microsoft’s Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser.

Snapchat is a picture messaging app with a small 1.4 MP installation size that contains features also found on the web version, which helps keep Snap up to date.

In addition, the app appears to function via Microsoft Edge and Windows would perceive the app as a standard application with an icon in the Start Menu plus notification capabilities. Of note, users can download this Snapchat PWA version for free from the Microsoft Store.

Snapchat joined forces with Amazon to create an augmented reality try-on experience for its users. Now, Snap users can try on different styles of eyewear from various well-known brands without leaving the app. Amazon Fashion has partnered with the app Snap in order to offer virtual try-on products from popular brands such as Persol, Maui Jim, Oakley, Ray-Ban, and Costa Del Mar. With this new feature, Amazon hopes to tap into Snap’s large base of 363 million daily active users.

The new eyewear collection will showcase unique Shopping Lenses for sunglasses, reading glasses, and seasonal glasses.

This collaboration is a result of Snapchat’s investments in AR shopping, which have included a number of upgrades to appeal to brands and retailers. These include the ability to update product information and pricing in real-time, access better analytics, and create AR shopping lenses.

As part of its augmented reality shopping experience, Snap has teamed up with MAC Cosmetics, Ultra Beauty, Chanel, American Eagle, Walmart, Puma, LVMH, and eyewear brands Goodr and Zenni Optical.

With the arrival of Snapchat and its new shopping lens feature on the Microsoft Store platform, more people will be able to access and experience this immersive shopping experience. This is good news for both users and retailers alike!
